The Blackburn Lake Sanctuary Advisory Committee provides community input to the management of the Sanctuary.
The Advisory Committee manages the Visitor Centre, arranges working bees and community activities, and encourages the involvement of volunteers.
All members of the committee are volunteers. New members are most welcome.
The Advisory Committee meets in the Visitor Centre on the first Thursday of each month (except January) at 7.30 pm. Members of the community are welcome to attend.
Whitehorse City Council owns and manages the Sanctuary. The Council is responsible for day-to-day management, capital works and long-term planning. It also consults with Melbourne Water, the Environment Protection Authority and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade to ensure that the Sanctuary as a whole is managed effectively.
The Advisory Committee meets regularly with Council staff to discuss day-to-day matters and any issues that arise from discussions with the community. Members also attend special meetings to discuss topics such as the revision of the Master Plan or joint applications for funding (e.g. for the Wetlands Regeneration Project).
The Council provides financial assistance for the education program, general activities and the day-to-day running of the Advisory Committee.

The Blackburn Lake Sanctuary is a special place that sits at the origins of the Kooyong Koot tributary.
This Country, its creatures, lands, skies and waterways, has been continuously loved and cared for by the Wurundjeri peoples for over 60,000 years. We hope to walk with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung in caring for this place.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung as the First Peoples of this area and pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors and elders.
